Spanair operations ceased Our Star Alliance partner Spanair (airline code: JK) ceased operations on Friday, January 27, 2012. We are offering alternative travel arrangements for our customers holding United or Continental tickets for flights operated by Spanair. If you hold a United or Continental ticket that includes one or more segments operated by Spanair, please call reservations or your travel agent to assist with rebooking your travel. Spanair tickets that were issued for travel on United or Continental will be honored as originally ticketed.
Exception PoliciesIn some cases where severe weather and other uncontrollable events are impacting Continental’s operations, we may, at our sole discretion, issue an exception policy designed to accommodate customers with restricted tickets who wish to change their travel in advance of any potential disruption. For additional information about what to do if your travel is affected by an exception policy, visit the Flight Delays and Cancellations page. Exceptions policies currently in effect are listed below:
Continental Express and United Express Flights
- United Continental Holdings is removing the Continental code on certain United Express flights operating to and from Continental hubs. Due to this change, flight numbers between CO* 1100-1299 will no longer be available in our flight search results. United Express will operate these flights with the UA code until further notice.
- As of January 1, 2012, ExpressJet will be acquired by and merged into Atlantic Southeast Airlines. The combined company will change its name to ExpressJet Airlines. After that date, affected flights will be operated by ExpressJet Airlines, doing business as Continental Express or United Express.
United Continental Merger ClosesOn Oct. 1, 2010, the legal closing of the merger with United Airlines was completed and for you, it's business as usual. Over the next 12 -18 months, we'll be working to create the world's leading airline. Each airline and frequent flyer program will continue to operate separately and your miles and Elite status will not be affected.
For more detailed information, take a look at our merger FAQs.
Revised FeesEffective Nov. 1, 2010, the following fees will increase as noted:
- The fee for reservations booked by telephone and ticketed at continental.com or through Continental Reservations will increase to $25.

Upgrade Policy Update for Flights to/from Lima Effective June 1, 2010, we will be changing our upgrade policy for Continental flights between the U.S. and Lima. In addition, our front cabin service will be similar to our BusinessFirst product and continue to offer sleeper seats and a variety of dining and entertainment options.
Flights booked for travel after June 1, 2010 between the U.S. and Lima will no longer be eligible for complimentary Elite upgrades, and service fees for OnePass upgrade rewards will correspond with our current policy for upgrading to BusinessFirst. With this policy change, flights between the U.S. and Peru will match the OnePass upgrade policies and service fees as our longer flights, such as those between the U.S. and Europe, since they are comparable in both flight duration and onboard product.
Flights operated by Copa Airlines between Panama and Lima are not included in this policy change, and will continue to be eligible for complimentary Elite upgrades.

Passport, visa and health requirements for the transit and destination countries are provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on continental.com as a courtesy and should be verified by the passenger before travel.
