South - An area of low pressure will be the main weather maker for the South this weekend. The low will move eastward today taking its rain shield from southeastern Texas this morning and spreading it eastward throughout the lower Mississippi Valley. Areas right along the Gulf Coast including the southern parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida panhandle can expect locally heavy downpours today with a slight risk for the development for a few strong or severe thunderstorms.

West - The frontal boundary that produced yesterday?s heavy rains, high winds, and mountain snows throughout the northern half of the West will continue to weaken and trudge eastward today. Lingering snow showers will persist in the higher elevations of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming today. Gusty winds will continue in the vicinity of the front.

Northeast - The Northeast portion of the country will start the weekend out on a quiet and dry note as high pressure takes control of the region?s weather. A majority of the region will see highs top out in the 50s. In the end, afternoon temperatures will range from the middle 40s in the northern portions of Maine to lower 60s in the southern portions of Virginia. Things will begin to change by Sunday as a southern storm system will begin to advance northward towards the region. Rain is expected to sneak into the southern portions of the Mid-Atlantic by Sunday afternoon.

Midwest - High pressure will dominate the Midwest today leading to a mild and dry day. Highs will range from near 50 along the Canadian border to the low and mid 60s in the lower Ohio Valley. Southerly winds will kick up out ahead of an approaching cold front in the Central and Northern plains today with winds gusting in excess of 30 mph this afternoon in the Dakotas.
