Domestic Fare Changes

Continental Airlines has loaded a few changes to the domestic non-refundable fare rules as of August 31, 2002. The highlights of the changes are below.

At the time of publication and dissemination, Continental deems this information to be true and accurate. All fare rules and contract of carriage are subject to change without notice, and Continental strongly recommends checking all rules and restrictions at time of ticketing.

  1. Effective immediately, for travel in the US Hawaii, Alaska and transborder US to Canada on or after Oct 1, 2002 all non refundable fare types will have no monetary value after ticketed departure date.

    What does this mean?

    Currently:
If a passenger does not use a non-refundable ticket, Continental allows the passenger to apply the amount to the purchase of a new ticket for up to one year. Continental will also collect a $100 change fee.

    October 1, 2002:

    • Passengers may make changes PRIOR to their ticketed departure date; all rules that apply today will be applicable.
    • Passengers may make changes PRIOR to their ticketed return date; provided they took the outbound flight; all rules that apply today will be applicable.
    • If a passenger does not travel, for any reason, on their scheduled flight and does not make a change to the ticket prior to departure date, the price of the ticket CANNOT be applied to the purchase of a new ticket, and has no monetary value.
    • All changes still assess a $100 change fee plus applicable add collect.

  2. Continental has also issued a new Standby procedure for non-refundable fare types for travel in the US, Hawaii, Alaska and transborder US to Canada.

    What does this mean?

    Currently:
Passengers holding a confirmed reservation and ticket may standby for earlier/later flight on the same day between the same origin and destination for no additional charge, provided seats are available.

Jan 1, 2003, for tickets issued on or after August 31, 2002:
A $100 refundable standby fee will be charged for all passengers requesting to go standby on an earlier or later flight on the same day as ticketed, or on the next available Continental flight.

In addition, Continental has modified some charges for special service items, such as checked article boxs, garment bag boxs, bicycle boxes, pet kennels and oxygen service fee. Please be sure to check current pricing.
