Important International Baggage Information

Free Baggage Acceptance

Checked Bags 2 Maximum 70 lbs and 62 (Length + Width + Height) - each
Carry-On 1 Maximum 40 lbs and 51 (L + W + H)
Boxes 1 Instead of 1 free bag; maximum 70 pounds and 62" (L + W + H).
Space available only. In good condition and labeled.
Continental Airlines shall not be liable for damage to boxes and their contents.
Boxes are not accepted on Continental Express* jet service destinations to Mexico.

BusinessFirst® Customers - 3 checked bags; box does not travel standby.
First Class/Business Class Customers - 3 checked bags - box travels standby.

Charges will apply for:

Extra Pieces Over 2 checked
Oversize Over 62 (L + W + H)
Overweight Over 70 lbs

Continentals Excess Baggage Rates For Latin America (These charges cannot be waived)

All oversize or overweight baggage, all boxes and any extra pieces are carried on a space available basis, and may not arrive at customer's destination for up to five days.

Live animals are not accepted as checked baggage.


Continental does not accept excess baggage** in the following year round embargoed markets:
Central America: San Salvador
South America: Caracas, Lima, Houston-Bogota
Caribbean: Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, Santiago (Dominican Republic)

The following destinations have excess baggage** restrictions during non-embargoed periods:
Continental Express* jet service to Mexico 1 piece (AGU, CME (effective Dec. 17), CUU, GDL, MEX, MLM, MTY, MZT, SLP, SLW, TAM, TRC, VER, VSA, ZIH, ZLO (effective Dec. 17)
Mexico 3 pieces (except Leon/Guanajuato - 1 piece)
Caribbean 3 pieces
Central & South America 3 pieces (except Newark - Bogota, Guayaquil and Quito - 2 pieces)

All excess baggage to Ecuador is subject to government taxation.
