HOUSTON, March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today announced new nonstop, daily service between its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, beginning June 10, 2004, pending government approval.
Continental will operate a Boeing 737-700 with 12 seats in first class and 112 in coach on the flights, which will depart Newark Liberty at 9:10 a.m. and arrive in Punta Cana at 1 p.m. The return flight will leave Punta Cana at 1:55 p.m., arriving at Newark Liberty at 6 p.m.
Punta Cana, located on the Dominican Republic's east coast, has been called one of the most beautiful beach areas in the world. Protected by law to ensure its natural beauty, the palm-shaded, white-sand beach is home to a number of resorts.
"Continental already offers 149 weekly departures to 17 cities and 12 islands in the Caribbean," said Pete Garcia, Continental's staff vice president - Sales and Marketing, Latin America. "This daily nonstop service to Punta Cana, Continental's fourth destination in the Dominican Republic, will be a great convenience for residents of the Northeast who are looking for a tranquil vacation spot."
In addition to its service from New York/Newark to Punta Cana, Continental also offers daily nonstop service to the Dominican cities of Santo Domingo, the country's capital and oldest city in the Americas; Puerto Plata, cradled between a colonial harbor and the natural reserve Mount Isabel de Torres; and Santiago, the principal urban center for the fertile Cibao agriculture region, known for some of the finest tobacco in the world.
