Service Offers New Connections to Florida, Caribbean, U.S. Oil and Energy Capital
ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland and HOUSTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) and the St. John's International Airport Authority today announced the airline will inaugurate seasonal nonstop service linking St. John's, Newfoundland with the airline's New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The once-daily service, which will operate between June 1 and Sept. 29, will connect St. John's, one of North America's oldest cities, with the financial and tourism capital of the United States.
The St. John's-bound flight will depart Newark Liberty at 5:20 p.m., arriving at 10:06 p.m. Return service from St. John's begins June 2. The Newark Liberty-bound flight will depart at 6 a.m., arriving at 7:50 a.m.
"Our new service will offer the fastest, most convenient link between the Canadian Maritimes and New York, a welcome addition for business and leisure travelers," said Bob Cortelyou, Continental's staff vice president of scheduling. "Importantly, our hub at Liberty International will offer travelers from St. John's new options for travel to Florida, the Caribbean and Mexico. And the host of oil and energy companies doing business in St. John's will have better access to Houston, the U.S. oil and energy capital and Continental's hometown."

Customers flying beyond New York/Newark will have the opportunity to connect to dozens of cities in North and South America, Europe and Asia. With almost 400 daily departures from Liberty International Airport to more than 120 cities worldwide, Continental offers more flights to more cities from New York than any other airline. The airline's Terminal C at Liberty Airport, which includes Kenneth Cole and DKNY department stores and a variety of high- end and quick-service restaurants, has been ranked highest among U.S. airports in terminal concessions.
Liberty International Airport is the New York-area airport most convenient to midtown Manhattan and Newark, N.J. Frequent commuter rail and Amtrak service at Liberty takes customers to New York's Penn Station in less than 30 minutes, and offers connections to points throughout New Jersey.
On all flights to and from St. John's, members of Continental's OnePass frequent flyer program will earn miles that can be redeemed on Continental and its partner carriers to hundreds of destinations worldwide.
