Continental Airlines Responds to Flight Incident at LAX

LOS ANGELES, May 21, 1998 -- Continental Airlines said today that a small number of people suffered apparent minor injuries on a flight between Los Angeles International Airport and Honolulu. Very preliminary numbers indicate that four passengers and three crewmembers experienced minor injuries.

Continental flight 75 was ascending through 31,000 feet when the incident occurred. The DC-10 aircraft was carrying 270 passengers and a crew of ten flight attendants and three cockpit crewmembers. The aircraft returned to LAX at approximately 2 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Continental said it would investigate the incident with authorities to determine the cause of the incident, including clear air turbulence.

Continental said that passengers on Flight 75 will be re-accommodated onto other flights or accommodated at local hotels.
