Continental Micronesia Announces New Routes to Japan in July
TAMUNING, GUAM, June 2, 1998 -- Continental Micronesia today announced it will begin new service to Japan markets this summer - the cities of Niigata (on July 2) and Okayama (July 3).
The airline has plans to open the gateway of Micronesia to Niigata and Okayama by operating Boeing 727s from Guam. Okayama will operate weekly on Monday and Friday, while Niigata will operate weekly on Thursday and Sunday. The new flights will connect to the airline's Micronesia, Asia and Australia departures at the Guam International Airport.
"We are continuing to strengthen Micronesia's exposure and access to more cities in Japan and are excited about flying weekly to the cities of Okayama and Niigata. Continental Micronesia flew successful charters to these two (2) markets last year and has decided to add them as regular routes to feed into our hub here on Guam." comments Walter Dias, staff vice president of sales and promotions.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Continental Micronesia's operations in the Micronesia islands. A subsidiary of Continental Airlines, it is the airline of Micronesia with service to twenty-two (22) destinations in the Asia Pacific region. The airline employs about 1800 people and, by this summer, will have twenty-one (21) jet aircraft in its fleet. Continental Micronesia is headquartered on Guam.
