Continental Airlines Dispatchers Ratify New Five-Year Contract
HOUSTON, July 7, 1998 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAI.B and CAI.A) today announced that the Transport Workers Union of America has ratified a new contract extending until December 31, 2003. The new contract will be effective upon signing and will bring Continental's approximately 100 dispatchers up to industry standard wages.
"We are delighted that a fair and equitable contract was ratified so far in advance of the amendable date of the old contract," said Mike Campbell, senior vice president of human resources and labor relations for Continental Airlines. The previous contract would have become amendable in April 1999.
The negotiations were concluded quickly and amicably, with Continental and the Transport Workers Union having reached a tentative agreement on the contract in June after just four days of negotiations. Continental enjoys one of the least contentious labor-management relationships in the airline industry.
