Continental Airlines Begins Non-Stop Service Between Los Angeles and San Salvador
HOUSTON, July 30, 1998 -- Continental Airlines today announced daily non-stop seasonal service between Los Angeles International Airport and San Salvador, El Salvador. The flights will operate during peak travel periods, from Aug. 1 - Sept. 9, and from Dec. 15 - Jan. 6, 1999.
The new Los Angeles-San Salvador route supplements Continental's existing daily nonstop flights to San Salvador from Houston, Texas.
"The public has responded very well to our Houston-San Salvador route," said Glen Hauenstein, vice president, Scheduling. "This additional service allows us to accommodate our Los Angeles-bound customers, who previously made connections in Houston on their way to visit family or friends during the summer or holiday season."
The daily flight leaves Los Angeles at 11:20 p.m., arriving in San Salvador at 5:31 a.m. The return flight leaves San Salvador at 6:30 p.m., and arrives in Los Angeles at 10:46 p.m. Continental will operate a Boeing 737 airplane on the route, with first class and coach seating.
Continental offers single or double-daily non-stop service from Continental's largest hub in Houston to every capital city in Central America. Continental has flown to Central America for 10 years.
Continental Airlines is the No. 2 U.S. airline to Latin America and the Caribbean both in terms of number of destinations and in number of passengers served. Continental serves 21 countries and 37 cities in Latin America and the Caribbean from its international hubs in Houston or Newark, operating daily non-stop flights for nearly 500 weekly departures to the region.
"Continental Airlines raises the comfort level for Latin American and Spanish-speaking U.S. travelers," Hauenstein said. "Our Latin passengers appreciate Continental's bilingual signage and Spanish-speaking ticket agents in the airport, as well as our bilingual flight attendants, meals with a 'Latin' flavor, and Spanish-language newspapers on board."
Continental is the fifth largest airline in the U.S., offering more than 2,000 departures daily to 125 domestic and 67 international destinations. Operating major hubs in Newark, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, Continental is strategically positioned for transcontinental travel, and offers extensive service to Latin America and Europe via its Houston and Newark gateways.
