Continental Airlines is the Official Airline of the New York City Marathon®
NEW YORK, September 9, 1998 -- For the fifth consecutive year, Continental Airlines, New York's hometown carrier, is the Official Airline of the New York City Marathon®.
With more than 2,000 daily departures to 125 domestic and 67 international destinations, Continental understands what it takes to go the distance. The airline is rated among the best in the business for its long-distance service.
"Running an airline is much like running a marathon," said a Continental spokesperson. "To reach the finish line requires hard work and concentration, the same as it does to run a long distance race."
As a major supporter of the Marathon, Continental will sponsor the International Friendship Run, which brings together over 14,000 runners from 100 countries for a friendly jog from the United Nations to the Marathon finish line the day before the race. For the thousands of race participants, Continental will also co-sponsor the NYC Marathon Finisher's Blanket, a heat-retaining wrap that keeps the runners comfortably warm after they cross the finish line.
