Continental Airlines Responds to Turbulence Incident Between New York/Newark and San Juan, Puerto Rico
HOUSTON, July 8, 1999 -- Continental Airlines said today that a small number of people suffered undetermined injuries on a flight between New York/Newark and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Preliminary information indicates that approximately 16 people - 12 passengers and four flight attendants - experienced the undetermined injuries. The aircraft diverted to Bermuda for medical treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that Continental flight 743 apparently encountered turbulence 180 miles south of Bermuda at approximately 29,000 feet. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft was carrying 153 passengers and a crew of four flight attendants and two pilots.
The aircraft departed Newark at 12:20 p.m. Eastern time and arrived at Bermuda International Airport at 4:04 p.m. local time.
Continental said it would investigate the incident with authorities.
