Continental Airlines Announces Non-stop Service from Newark/New York to St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

NEWARK, N.J., July 12, 1999 -- Continental Airlines will start non-stop service between Newark/New York and St. Thomas, United States, Virgin Islands, effective December 16, 1999. This is the airline's seventh Caribbean destination from Newark/New York.

This new route will be operated with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft. This aircraft has a total of 124 seats, 12 in BusinessFirst and 112 in Coach with state of the art entertainment systems at each seat. The flight will depart Newark at 8 a.m. and arrive in St. Thomas at 12:45 p.m. Northbound, the flight will depart St. Thomas at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Newark at 4:40 p.m.

"This new non-stop service to St. Thomas follows a recent Caribbean expansion, where we added more flights to our San Juan, Puerto Rico service, and larger planes to our Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic flights. With the additional destination of St. Thomas, we can serve our Caribbean bound leisure travelers more efficiently," said Pete Garcia, staff vice president Latin America sales and marketing.
