Continental Airlines to Inagurate Nonstop Service to Amsterdam, The Netherlands
NEWARK, N.J., July 15, 1999 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) today will inaugurate nonstop service between Newark/New York and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Amsterdam will be the airline's 16th trans-Atlantic destination from Newark International Airport.
The carrier will operate a DC-10 aircraft on the route, carrying 38 passengers in BusinessFirst and 204 in Coach. Flight 70 departs Newark at 9:50 p.m. and arrives in Amsterdam at 11:20 a.m. Westbound, Flight 71 departs Amsterdam at 1:20 p.m. and arrives in Newark at 3:35 p.m. The flying time is approximately eight hours.
"We are very proud to be adding Amsterdam to our list of destinations that Continental serves nonstop from our hub in Newark/New York, Continental's primary gateway to Europe and the Middle East," said Barry Simon, Continental's senior vice president, International.
Continental is the only airline with a hub in the New York City region. The new Amsterdam service will connect with an extensive network of routes throughout the U.S. and Latin America. Passengers utilizing the new service will arrive at a state-of-the-art Customs and Immigration Hall in Terminal B, which handles more than three million passengers annually.
In August, Continental will start nonstop service to Tel Aviv, Israel, from Newark/New York, for a total of 17 trans-Atlantic destinations from Newark International Airport. With this route, Continental offers more flights and more seats across the Atlantic from Newark/New York than any other airline.
