Continental Airlines Reports Record July Load Factor

HOUSTON, Texas, August 2, 1999 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) today reported a systemwide load factor of 77.8 percent in July, the highest July load factor in Continental's history and the second highest load factor ever for the company.

In July 1999, Continental flew 5.6 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 7.3 billion available seat miles (ASMs), resulting in a traffic increase of 10.4 percent on a capacity increase of 9.5 percent versus July 1998. International traffic was 2.1 billion RPMs, up 21.8 percent from July 1998 and international capacity was 2.6 billion ASMs, up 17.5 percent from last year.

Continental Express, Continental's wholly owned regional subsidiary, reported its highest load factor in company history of 67.9 percent, beating the previous record set in June 1999 by 1.5 points and ending ahead of last July by 4.6 points based on 208.1 million RPMs and 306.5 million ASMs. Continental Express July traffic was up 36.8 percent and July capacity was up 27.5 percent from last year.
