Continental Airlines to Sponsor New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 7
NEWARK, N.J., September 20, 1999 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) is proud to be a sponsor for the 30th New York City Marathon. The Marathon will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 9 a.m. The course runs through all five boroughs of the city, including Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan. The 26.2 mile race features thousands of runners from all over the world. This is the fifth year that Continental has been a sponsor for the Marathon.
"Continental consistently wins awards for our long distance service, so its no wonder that we are the airline of choice for these runners who want to go the distance," said Greg Brenneman, President and COO of Continental, and a Marathon participant along with many other Continental employees.
The airline will team up with Chase Manhattan Bank, and distribute GO Cards for the race. GO Cards are displayed by the spectators to cheer-on their favorite runner.
Continental is also the sole sponsor for the International Friendship Run, which takes place the day before the Marathon. It is an opportunity for all the Marathon runners to get together for a friendly run before the big competition.
