Continental Airlines Announces New Travel Agency Commission Structure

HOUSTON, October 12, 1999 -- Effective immediately, Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) has changed its travel agent base commission structure from eight percent to five percent. The change affects all domestic and international tickets issued by travel agents on Continental Airlines and Continental Express in the United States and Canada.

Domestic U.S.:
The new domestic commission rate is five percent, with a maximum cap of $50 for round-trip travel or $25 one-way. The rate applies to all tickets issued by travel agents in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) for travel to, from and within the U.S.

Canada:
The new base commission rate for Canada is five percent, with a maximum cap of $70 (CAD) for round-trip travel or $35 (CAD) one-way. The rate applies to all tickets purchased in Canada for travel between the U.S. and Canada, and within the U.S.

International:
The new international base commission rate is five percent, with a maximum cap of $100 (USD) or $140 (CAD) for round-trip travel or $50 (USD) or $70 (CAD) one-way. The rate applies to all international tickets purchased in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) or Canada.

Continental Micronesia:
Tickets issued by travel agencies in The Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the Marshall Islands and Guam for travel to, from or within these points will earn a base commission rate of five percent. Maximum payment is $50 for one-way travel or $100 round-trip.

Online Agencies:
Any tickets issued by any online travel agencies based in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, The Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the Marshall Islands and Guam will earn a base commission rate of five percent. The maximum payment is $5 for one-way travel or $10 round-trip.
