Continental Airlines Reports Record May Load Factor
HOUSTON, June 1, 2000 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) today reported a systemwide load factor of 75.9 percent in May, the highest May load factor in company history and 3.3 points above last year.
In May 2000, Continental flew 5.5 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 7.2 billion available seat miles (ASMs), resulting in a traffic increase of 11.9 percent on a capacity increase of 7.0 percent versus May 1999. International traffic was 2.1 billion RPMs, up 20.0 percent from May 1999 and international capacity was 2.7 billion ASMs, up 13.0 percent from last year.
Continental Express, Continental’s wholly owned regional subsidiary, reported its highest May load factor ever of 65.6 percent, 0.8 points above last May’s record. Continental Express flew 253.0 million RPMs and 385.9 million ASMs in May, resulting in a traffic increase of 46.6 percent and a capacity increase of 45 percent versus last year.
