Continental to Provide All-Jet Service to Buffalo, N.Y. and Daily Service to LaGuardia
BUFFALO, N.Y., June 7, 2000 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) and Continental Express, the regional airline subsidiary, today announced that they will provide all-jet service from Buffalo Niagara International Airport to its hubs in Cleveland and New York/Newark and detailed plans for their upcoming service between Buffalo and New York's LaGuardia. The addition of the new service makes Continental the second largest jet-carrier in Buffalo.
"Continental is happy to be able to offer another choice for travel to the New York City area," said Glen Hauenstein, vice president of Scheduling. "As we upgrade all of our Buffalo service to jets, we will be taking the daily number of jet departures in Buffalo from five to 14."
Effective Sept.7, Continental Express will upgrade its flights between Buffalo and Cleveland to jet service using the 50-passenger Embraer ERJ-145 and 37-passenger ERJ-135. This new regional jet service will allow jet-to-jet connections from Buffalo to the dozens of cities served through Continental’s hub at Cleveland, including Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas.
Continental Express will operate the newest member of its fleet, the fast and quiet Embraer regional jet, dubbed the ExpressJet, on this route between Buffalo and Cleveland. The ExpressJet offers cabin comfort and amenities associated with larger jet aircraft. Features include ample leg and headroom, carry-on luggage storage, leather-covered orthopedic seats and a full-sized galley.
Also on Sept.7, Continental Express will begin offering four daily flights between Buffalo and LaGuardia using the 50-passenger Embraer ERJ-145 regional jet. This new service will complement Continental's daily service between Buffalo and Newark.
