Continental Airlines Expands Route System With Two New Destinations
Service to Santiago, Chile, from New York City increases to daily
HOUSTON, June 13, 2000 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) tomorrow will launch service to two new Latin American destinations of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and Aguascalientes, Mexico.
In addition, Continental will increase to daily its service between New York and Santiago, Chile, with a stop in Lima, Peru, from its current four times weekly schedule. The daily, nonstop service to Puerto Plata from Newark International Airport, effective June 14, will operate with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft equipped with 12 first class and 112 economy class seats. The historic town of Puerto Plata is the largest city on the Dominican Republic’s north coast and a prominent tourist destination.
On June 14, Continental will launch daily, nonstop service to Aguascalientes, located 250 miles northwest of Mexico City, from Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The airline will operate the 50-seat Embraer ERJ 145 regional jet, dubbed the ExpressJet, on this route. Already the No. 1 U.S. carrier to Mexico, Continental now serves 20 destinations in Mexico with the addition of Aguascalientes. Continental also is adding a second daily regional jet service to the Mexican destinations of Chihuahua and Tampico, effective June 14, operating the ExpressJet on both routes.
As the No. 2 airline to Latin America and the Caribbean in number of passengers and destinations, Continental offers service to 20 countries and 43 cities in the region.
