Continental Airlines Reports Highest Load Factor in Company History
HOUSTON, Aug. 1, 2000 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) today reported the highest systemwide load factor in company history of 80.4 percent in July, 0.4 points above the previous record set in June 2000 and 2.6 points above July 1999.
In July 2000, Continental flew 6.0 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 7.5 billion available seat miles (ASMs), resulting in a traffic increase of 6.7 percent on a capacity increase of 3.3 percent versus July 1999. International traffic was 2.4 billion RPMs, up 14.5 percent from July 1999 and international capacity was 2.9 billion ASMs, up 9.8 percent from last year.
Continental Express, Continental’s wholly owned regional subsidiary, reported its second highest July load factor ever of 66.6 percent, 1.3 points below last July’s record. Continental Express flew 273.1 million RPMs and 409.9 million ASMs in July, resulting in a traffic increase of 31.2 percent and a capacity increase of 33.7 percent versus last year.
