Continental Airlines Reports Temporary Operations Impact From Interruption In Power Supply

HOUSTON, Sept. 12, 2000 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL - news and CAL.A - news) is reporting that many flights tonight will be delayed as a result of an interruption in the power supply supporting computer equipment critical to the airline's System Operations Coordination Center (SOCC) at its Houston headquarters.

The situation arose when a back-up power supply was shut down by fire department personnel as a safety precaution.

The airline is implementing back-up procedures that it expects will allow it resume operations later tonight.

The power supply was lost at approximately 5 p.m. CDT and temporarily prevents Continental from dispatching flights. Approximately 300-400 evening flights are affected. Flights that are en route are continuing normally and their passengers will not be affected if they are not connecting to another Continental flight.
