Continental Express will operate the service using the fast, quiet 37-passenger Embraer ERJ-135 ExpressJet.

"We appreciate the support of the Knoxville community in making this service possible," said President of Continental Express Jim Ream. "Customers from Knoxville will now have their choice of LaGuardia or Newark when traveling to the New York area."

The daily flights will depart Knoxville at 6:40 a.m. and 2:10 p.m., arriving at LaGuardia at 8:27 a.m. and 3:57 p.m., respectively. The return flights depart LaGuardia at 11:15 a.m. and 7:35 p.m., arriving in Knoxville at 1:38 p.m. and 9:58 p.m.

"This is great news for Knoxville. Good connections and direct flights are important to the vitality of any growing city and we have it here in Knoxville," Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe said today.

"With the introduction of the new service to New York's LaGuardia Airport, passengers flying from McGhee Tyson Airport will have direct access to 16 nonstop destinations," said Arthur G. Seymour, Jr., Chairman of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority's Board of Commissioners. "Continental has made a strong commitment to providing East Tennessee with excellent air service by adding these two new flights to LaGuardia and recently adding a third flight to Newark. They have also changed flight schedules to better arrival and departure times at the airline's hub in Newark. With their other service to Houston and Cleveland, no one offers more nonstop destinations from Knoxville. We appreciate their continued support."
