Continental Airlines to Operate Limited Passenger Flights This Evening
HOUSTON, Sept. 13, 2001 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) plans to only operate limited special "extra section" passenger flights this evening.
Despite repeated government assurances that air travel in the U.S. is returning to normal, Continental is still unable to secure government approval to fly many flights. Those Continental flights still unable to operate include seven transatlantic flights diverted to Canada more than 60 hours ago, with nearly a thousand passengers on board. Additionally, Continental is unable to secure clearance to operate many of its U.S. operations. Therefore, flight operations planned for today are subject to change at any time.
Continental has now learned that it will not be allowed to operate most of its international flights into the U.S. until cleared by the U.S. government.
