Continental Airlines Plans to Operate Reduced Weekend Schedule

HOUSTON, Sept. 14, 2001 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) is prepared to operate up to 55 percent of its regularly scheduled flights on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Continental and Continental Express expect to complete almost half of their typical schedule of more than 2,000 daily flights today, including many of those international flights diverted to Canada Tuesday morning.

"We’re pleased that we are finally able to get some of our system back to normal," said Continental Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gordon Bethune. "We are particularly gratified to be able to accommodate those customers who were stranded since Tuesday."

Continental is in full compliance with all security directives issued by the federal government. Nevertheless, all carriers are still experiencing difficulty in obtaining the air space necessary to operate flights, despite repeated assurances by the federal government that air space in the U.S. is open. Furthermore, several international flights that were diverted to Canada after the tragic events of Tuesday morning remain on the ground in Canada. The Canadian airports where those planes are located have not completed their procedures that will allow for those flights to depart.

To check for flights that are planned to operate, please visit continental.com or contact Continental Airlines reservations at 1-800-525-0280.

Planned flight operations are subject to change at any time. As the Federal Aviation Administration restores system capacity, a process that at this point is still incomplete, it may not be able to offer clearances for all flights that Continental is able to operate.

In light of heightened security measures at U.S. airports, passengers are advised to check in at a Continental Airlines ticket counter with valid photo identification at least two hours before departure time. Off-airport and curbside check-in will not be permitted. Only ticketed passengers or those holding boarding passes or electronic ticket receipts will be allowed beyond security checkpoints.
