Continental Airlines Installs Cockpit Door Restraints on 67 Percent of Its Aircraft
Airline to Complete Installation By October 23
HOUSTON, October 16, 2001 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) has installed secondary cockpit door restraints on 67 percent of its aircraft and plans to complete installation in all of its aircraft by October 23, well within the FAA’s targeted 30 day deadline. Today 224 of the airline’s 336 aircraft have been equipped with cockpit door restraints.
Continental has been working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing to enhance security on the aircraft and is installing cockpit door restraints similar to a crossbar or deadbolt, depending on the aircraft, and mounted on the inside of the door.
