Continental Airlines Speeds Holiday Travel by Adding Checkpoints for Customer Convenience

HOUSTON, December 20, 2001 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL), in response to more stringent security screening at the nation’s airports, has increased the number of security checkpoints at all three of its domestic hubs. In Houston, the airline has doubled the number of checkpoints from five to ten; at Newark, six checkpoints have been added; and at Cleveland’s airport, two more have been added.

"As holiday travel peaks this year, our customers will typically not have to deal with the long lines and interminable wait-times common at many busy airports," said a Continental spokesperson, "and we have focused on making the security process faster and more convenient for everyone, rather than designating checkpoints for different classes of travelers."

Check-in and processing times will vary, depending on the airport and the time of a customer’s flight. Travelers should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes prior to a domestic flight and at least two hours before an international departure.

This holiday season, the busiest travel day will be Dec. 21, when the greatest number of people will pass through airports on their way to visit family and friends. Continental has increased staffing that day to assist customers who are boarding flights and making connections.
