Continental Airlines to Resume Nonstop Cleveland - Washington Reagan Service
HOUSTON, December 27, 2001 -- – Continental Airlines today announced it would resume nonstop service between Ronald Reagan National Airport outside Washington, D.C. and its hub at Cleveland's Hopkins International Airport on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002.
Continental and Continental Express will fly four daily jet flights between Reagan National and Cleveland, Continental's third largest hub. Departures and arrivals will augment current service between Cleveland and Washington's Dulles International Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
"The reopening of Reagan National airport to service from Cleveland is a tremendous achievement for the people of Cleveland and the Midwest and for Continental Airlines," said Continental Chairman and CEO Gordon Bethune. "We owe a debt of gratitude to U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta for his leadership in U.S. aviation security, and to the Ohio senators and the members of the Cleveland congressional delegation for their tireless efforts to see Reagan National Airport reopened."
The daily service will be flown by the 124-seat new-generation 737-700 aircraft, as well as by 37-seat and 50-seat Embraer Regional Jet aircraft operated by Continental Express.
