Re: Continental Airlines New York/Newark – Shanghai Application (Docket OST-2007-28567)
Continental Airlines has applied for authority to operate daily B777 nonstop service between New York/Newark and Shanghai, China beginning March 25, 2009. Continental has also applied to provide through flight service between Cleveland and Shanghai via New York/Newark. As a Continental customer, I respectfully urge you to grant Continental this authority.
Continental has worked hard at providing clean, safe and reliable transportation and professional customer service to a growing list of international and domestic destinations that meet the airline's customer's needs. With no U.S. carrier nonstop or single-plane service at New York/Newark, Shanghai has a service deficit from the New York/New Jersey region. With Continental's hub at Newark Liberty International, Continental is the single best choice for filling the service gap between the world's financial capital in New York and the growing financial capital of Shanghai and competitive U.S.-Shanghai service for points throughout Continental's network.
Continental was recently ranked by its customers as Fortune Magazine's 2007 Most Admired Global Airline and Most Admired U.S. Airline for the service the airline provides to its customers. Continental and New York/Newark are the right choice for providing new competitive service to Shanghai and competition for existing service already offered by other U.S. carriers currently serving Shanghai. Allowing Continental to commence new competitive service to Shanghai via its New York/Newark hub is important to U.S. consumers, to Continental's continued growth and its many thousands of employees. The Department of Transportation's decision is easy; Continental Airlines and daily nonstop New York/Newark – Shanghai service. Thank you for your consideration.
