  • Upgrade Policy Update for Flights to/from Lima
Effective June 1, 2010, our upgrade policy for Continental flights between the U.S. and Lima. In addition, our front cabin service will be similar to our BusinessFirst product and continue to offer sleeper seats and a variety of dining and entertainment options.

Flights booked for travel after June 1, 2010 between the U.S. and Lima will no longer be eligible for complimentary Elite upgrades, and service fees for OnePass upgrade rewards will correspond with our current policy for upgrading to BusinessFirst. With this policy change, flights between the U.S. and Peru will match the OnePass upgrade policies and service fees as our longer flights, such as those between the U.S. and Europe, since they are comparable in both flight duration and onboard product.

Flights operated by Copa Airlines between Panama and Lima are not included in this policy change, and will continue to be eligible for complimentary Elite upgrades.

  • Travel to Argentina
Effective December 28, citizens of the U.S., Canada and Australia are required to pay an entry fee when arriving at Buenos Aires International Airport (EZE). U.S. citizens will be charged $131 USD that will be valid for multiple entries over 10 years. Canadian citizens will be charged $70 USD per entry and Australian citizens will be charged $100 USD per entry. For complete details on the new entry fee, please visit argentina.usembassy.gov.

  • Travel to Venezuela
The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is unable to determine whether Venezuelan airports that serve as the last point of departure for non-stop flights to the U.S. maintain and carry out effective aviation security measures in accordance with the Standards and appropriate Recommended Practices established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). All flights are subject to continuing effectiveness of government approvals.

  • ESTA for U.S. Visa Waiver Program Travelers
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers to obtain approval from the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to check-in for a flight to the U.S.

To apply for authorization to travel to the U.S., travelers may go to the ESTA web-based system and complete an application.

  • U.S. Departure and Entry Requirements
U.S. federal legislation requires all customers, regardless of citizenship or age, to hold a valid passport for travel by air to or from the U.S. Review the complete details.

Passport, visa and health requirements for the transit and destination countries are provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on continental.com as a courtesy and should be verified by the passenger before travel. Remember that if the passenger is departing the U.S., a passport is now required, regardless of the destination country's entry requirements.

U.S. federal legislation requires commercial air carriers operating international flights to the U.S. to submit the visiting address of all passengers who are non-U.S. citizens and non-residents to U.S. Customs and Border Protection before travel commences. Customers will be expected to provide this information during check-in.

Effective January 18, 2009, the US-VISIT program, which involves U.S. Customs and Border Protection collection of biometric data from most international travelers holding a non-U.S. passport or visa upon arrival in the United States, will expand to include U.S. residents, as well as travelers entering Guam under the Guam Visa Waiver Program (GVWP). Additional information may be found on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Web Site.
