Upgrade Rewards

With OnePass miles, you can reward yourself with an upgrade to First Class, Business Class or BusinessFirst.

Note: Certain fares are excluded from mileage-deduct upgrades. Review the fare rules for your ticket to verify whether or not it is eligible for upgrades. Upgrades cannot be confirmed on continental.com.

Call to Request Upgrade Rewards

Upgrades on Continental and OnePass reward partners within the 50 U.S. may be requested on continental.com or by calling the Continental Reward Desk: 800.621.7467 (7:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Central Time). You must have your OnePass account number and Personal Identification Number (PIN) to get a reward. Keep them handy and have them available when calling.

Overview of Mileage Upgrade Policies

Topic Mileage Upgrades Complimentary Elite Upgrades to First and Business Class
Processing Upgrades may be requested 24 hours prior to departure. OnePass account number and PIN are required to complete transaction. Elite upgrades are automatically processed every night based on Elite status, fare class and time of reservation.
Eligible Fare Classes Mileage upgrades can be requested when flying on any fare class and apply for most fare types*. For most discounted fares, an upgrade service fee will apply. Mileage upgrades can not be used when flying on reward tickets or free tickets. All fare classes are eligible for Elite upgrades except when flying on reward tickets or free tickets.
Mileage Deduction Miles are deducted from the OnePass account at time of reservation or when placed on the waitlist. Miles are not required.
Waitlisting Waitlisting is permitted. Waitlists are cleared based on Elite status (Platinum, then Gold/Silver, then all others) and time of waitlist. All waitlists expire 24 hours before trip departure. There is no waitlist since upgrades are processed automatically.
Standby at the Airport Standby is permitted. Customers who were waitlisted will automatically be added to the standby list upon check-in. Yes.
Confirmation Upgrade is confirmed at time of reservation if a seat is available. Waitlisted customers are confirmed automatically once a seat becomes available. Upgrade can be confirmed at time of reservation if a seat is available when purchasing a Full Fare Economy Y, Discount Full Fare Economy B and Platinum booked in M class. For all other types of tickets, upgrades will be processed on a space-available basis for Platinum, Gold and Silver members starting at five, three and one calendar days in advance, respectively. Upgrades that are not cleared in advance will be automatically prioritized on the airport upgrade standby list upon check-in.
Redeposit/Refund Upgrade rewards and upgrade service fees may be refunded for the applicable redeposit fee.

For BusinessFirst upgrade rewards, all miles and upgrade service fees will be refunded if the BusinessFirst segment of the trip could not be upgraded. For all other upgrade rewards, miles and upgrade service fees will be refunded only when no segments of the trip could be upgraded. When applicable, these refunds will occur automatically 7 to 10 days after the trip.

Select Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards

Select Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards allow you to upgrade to First Class, Business Class or BusinessFirst with the purchase of most* published adult Economy fares. Select Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards are capacity-controlled.

Full Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards

Full Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards allow you to upgrade to First Class, Business Class or BusinessFirst with the purchase of Economy fares booked in Y class. Full Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards are capacity-controlled. Full Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards do not require as many miles as Select Economy Fare Upgrade Rewards.
