Low Calorie Meals are available for customers who are reducing their caloric intake. Continental's low calorie meal is based on a daily caloric intake of 2000 calories and follows the Recommended Daily Allowances that state that less than 20% of the total calories should come from protein, less than 30% from fat and 50-60% from carbohydrates. Low calorie diets should also contain a variety of foods to ensure adequate intake of all essential nutrients.
Examples of items that are usually allowed on a Low Calorie diet are:
- Poultry (without skin)
- White fish
- Eggs
- Margarine
- Lean meat
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Skimmed milk
- Rice
- Low fat cheese
- Baked or boiled potatoes
- Whole grain bread
- Pasta
- Dietary preserves
- Dietary salad dressing.
Examples of items that are usually prohibited on a Low Calorie diet are:
- Fried and fatty foods
- Sugars and preserves
- Pâtés
- Full cream dairy products
- Fatty meat
- Gravy
- Cakes
- Puddings
- Biscuits
- Alcohol
- Soft drinks (sweetened with sugar)
- Fruit in syrup
- Mayonnaise and salad dressing.
