Low Sodium Meals are available for those customers who have diseases ranging from heart disease to kidney failure. Continental's Low Sodium Meals follow the American Heart Association's recommendation to restrict sodium to 2 grams daily for individuals with mild to moderate hypertension. Salt influences the retention of fluid volume and blood pressure in the body. High salt levels in the blood can cause the body to become overloaded with fluid while a low salt (sodium) diet can help to control the balance. Foods with added salt such as processed meats should be avoided along with table salt.
