Other Information for Customers with Disabilities

Incubators and Infant Transport Systems (ITS)

These services are limited and provided only in the Micronesia region.

Insulin Pumps

Insulin Pumps will be permitted for usage while on board the aircraft provided the insulin pump does not use a wireless glucose monitor.

Additional Information

Although nebulizers and insulin pumps using wireless glucose monitors cannot be used on board the aircraft, these devices are permitted to be carried on the aircraft at no additional cost provided they fit securely beneath the seat or in the overhead compartment. An additional seat may be purchased for large assistive devices. In addition to the free bag allowance wheelchairs, canes, crutches, braces and other assistive devices are accepted free of charge. Assistive devices are not included in the maximum number of allowable carry-on items.

Medicine

You should carry your medications with you onboard the flight. In fact, you should never put your medications in your check bag. Keep in mind that you may be asked to check your carry-on bag at the gate due to space constraints in the cabin. It is your responsibility to remove your medications before giving your bag to a flight attendant or agent at the gate. Our aircraft do not have refrigerators on board, so please plan accordingly. Also, if you use needles to inject medication, have your doctor's prescription with you just in case security officers have questions.

Service Animals

Service animals are accepted in cabin free of charge for qualified individuals with a disability. A service animal should sit in the floor space in front of the customer's assigned seat but cannot under any circumstances protrude into the aisles. Customers may use an approved in-cabin kennel for smaller animals provided its use meets stowage requirements. Exit row seating is prohibited. Documentation may be required for an animal traveling to international destinations.

Psychiatric assist animals and emotional support animals are also accepted in cabin free of charge for qualified individuals with a disability if certain documentation requirements are met. Additional documentation may also be required for an animal traveling to international destinations. Refer to DOT 14 CFR Part 382 or contact Continental for additional information.

An animal should sit at the customer's feet without protruding into the aisles to comply with safety regulations. Customers may elect to use an approved in-cabin kennel for smaller animals. Exit row seating is prohibited.

Effective May 13, 2009, customers traveling with an emotional support or psychiatric assist animal must provide a minimum forty-eight (48) hour advance notification to Continental reservations. The disability desk in reservations must receive and validate the required documentation prior to the time of travel. Verification of documentation will include Continental contacting your mental health care professional. If we are unable to validate the documentation or if the advance notification is not given, customers will be required to transport the animal as a pet, and pet fees will apply.
