Children Traveling Alone

Continental designates children 5-14 years of age as unaccompanied minors when traveling without a companion who is at least 18 years old in the same cabin. Travel arrangements for young travelers can be booked at any of the following:

For reservations booked and purchased on or after Feb. 17, 2008:

  • Continental will allow unaccompanied minor travel only on Continental Airlines, Continental Micronesia, Continental Express and Continental Connection flights.
  • Unaccompanied minors under 5 years of age are not accepted.
  • Unaccompanied minors ages 5-7 may only travel on nonstop flights.
  • Unaccompanied minors ages 8-14 may travel on any flight (nonstop or connecting) operated by Continental, Continental Micronesia, Continental Express, or Continental Connection. However, travel will not be allowed on the last connecting flight of the day – unless the connecting flight is the only published service to that destination. Unaccompanied Minors are not accepted on flights which require an overnight stay in order to make a connection.
  • Special supervision for children ages 15-17 who are traveling alone will no longer be offered.
  • Children under the age of 15 traveling alone may not travel on any flights operated by Continental that connect to/from other carriers, including SkyTeam and other partners.

For reservations booked and purchased before Feb. 17, 2008:

  • Unaccompanied minors under 5 years of age are not accepted.
  • Unaccompanied minors ages 5-7 years accepted for nonstop and direct flights only.
  • Unaccompanied minors ages 8-14 accepted for nonstop, direct and connecting flights.
  • Travel will not be allowed on a Continental flight departing between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless travel is on international flights, flights operating out of Hawaii or Alaska, or domestic flights of 2 hours or less.
  • Unaccompanied Minors will not be accepted for travel on the last connecting flight of the day to their final destination. In addition, Unaccompanied Minors are not accepted on flights which require an overnight stay in order to make a connection.
  • Special supervision can be requested for children aged 15-17 who are traveling alone.
  • Unaccompanied minors are not accepted on Continental flights operated by Amtrak (this is train service) as a part of its codeshare agreement with Continental.
  • Children traveling alone under the age of 15 years will not be accepted on any flights operated by Continental that connect to/from Air France, Alitalia, Emirates or Hawaiian Airlines operated flights.

A Continental flight is defined as one operated by Continental Airlines; ExpressJet Airlines, Inc. dba Continental Express; Continental Micronesia and Continental Connection.
