      For One Another Fund

The Continental donations platform – supporting coronavirus aid around the world

The coronavirus pandemic poses a threat to the health and livelihoods of many people all over the world. With the first acute illness wave seeming to be flattening in many parts of the world, the social, humanitarian, and economic consequences of the corona crisis are becoming increasingly apparent in many places.

Our corporate value of “For One Another” is especially important at this time – transforming #socialdistancing into #distantsocializing

In order to support sustainably and also beyond the acute emergency relief, Continental has therefore launched the “For One Another Fund” in collaboration with the DSZ – International Giving Foundation (IGF).

You as an employee have the opportunity to donate via this platform to a non-profit organization in one of eleven countries where large numbers of Continental colleagues or suppliers live and which are greatly affected by the coronavirus crisis. You will find an overview with more details below.

You can also choose to donate to the WHO’s global relief fund or to split your donation equally across all the available relief organizations.*

Every contribution counts and can make a real difference to many people.

Your support is greatly appreciated! #joinforces

*The donations currency is Euros €. The IGF will issue a donation certificate for every donation from Germany over €200. For amounts below €200, no certificate is required for tax purposes. While donations from other countries are possible, donation certificates can only be issued for payments from German accounts. You will find all payment options on the donation page.

Overview of countries and non-profit organizations

      Brazil - Red Cross

Brazil is severely affected by coronavirus, and medical help is urgently needed in many areas to protect people against the virus or to properly treat sufferers. Continental has around 6,000 employees in Brazil.

Your donation could help support the Brazilian Red Cross in the current crisis.

      China - HORIZON

Approximately 25,000 people work for Continental in China – more than a tenth of our workforce. As the point of origin of the coronavirus pandemic, the whole of society in China continues to be strongly affected by the crisis.

Continental China has therefore already launched a local employee donation program

The Horizon Corporate Volunteer Consultancy (HCVC) supports urban and rural communities in China by implementing community recovering projects, such as the construction of rural public healthcare systems. Furthermore, the organization supports front-line medical staff and families that have lost a family member by providing psychological assistance or financial support.

With your donation to HORIZON, you can contribute to tackle challenges of the post Corona period with these and other important projects in China.

      Czech Republic – Caritas

Continental employs some 16,000 people in the Czech Republic.

Across the country, Caritas CZ mainly supports single parents, those who are seriously ill, the homeless and elderly people who are earning less or are left with no income at all as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our colleagues at the Otrokovize location are collaborating with the local Caritas organization.

With your donation, you can additionally support the country-wide projects of Caritas CZ.

India – United Way of Bengaluru

Many people in India are currently out of work as a result of the lockdown – mainly migrant workers, who are for the most part day laborers and have no fixed source of income. Approximately 9,000 people work at Continental in India, and many of them are regularly actively involved in donating and volunteer work. United Way of Bengaluru, an organization supported by our colleagues, works to ensure that poorer families without a source of income receive staple foods such as rice, flour and oil in the form of survival food kits. Donations from the local Continental workforce have already funded 3,500 such kits.  A kit costs approximately €8 and will feed a family of four for approximately four to five days. By donating, you can support the continued funding and distribution of such food kits in India.

      Indonesia – Red Cross

As one of the most densely populated countries in the world, the impact of the coronavirus crisis on Indonesia is severe and prolonged, rendering the country dependent on aid.

With the donations fund, we also want to support areas where not only our colleagues, but also our suppliers and their families, are reliant on vital help.

The country is the world’s second-largest producer of natural rubber – one of the most important raw materials for tires and other technical rubber products.

Since January 2018, Continental and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation) have joined forces in a development partnership to run a pilot project on the ground in Indonesia aimed at enhancing sustainability in the supply chain. (For more information, see the press release on the project and the Natural Rubber Sourcing Policy, published in 2018).

By donating to the Red Cross Indonesia, you can support wherever the help is needed the most in the country. The organization constantly monitors and evaluates the situation in the different regions of Indonesia, including the West Kalimantan province on the island of Borneo which is home to the GIZ project.

      Mexico - Red Cross

Mexico has more than 25,000 people working for Continental – more than a tenth of our entire workforce. In Mexico too, the coronavirus crisis is having a severe impact on many people, and medical care and equipment is urgently needed in many regions.

Our local colleagues have supported the Mexican Red Cross in the past, including with emergency aid after the devastating earthquake that hit Mexico City in 2017. By donating to this local Red Cross organization, you will be able to support the provision of essential medical supplies and protective equipment to people throughout Mexico.

Romania - United Way of Romania

Continental employs around 20,000 people in Romania – nearly a tenth of the entire workforce. One of the problems the country is facing in the coronavirus crisis is supplying food to people in remote areas.

Moreover, the pandemic severely restricts the freedom of movement of older people. In Romania, they are not allowed to leave their homes because they belong to the risk group. United Way Romania is particularly committed to providing food, hygiene products and medicine to isolated elderly people during the Corona crisis.

With your donation you support United Way’s activities throughout the country.

      Slovakia – Človek v ohrození

Continental has around 7,000 employees in Slovakia. In the town of Puchov, mathematically one-third of the population are employed by Continental. But there are families not just there, but throughout the country, who live in generational poverty or are under-served in remote areas. These people are most at risk from the coronavirus pandemic, given that they often have little access to clean water or important information on preventing infection.

Človek v Ohrození is an organization committed to ensuring that families in need are supplied with basics including drinking water, soap and disinfectant. In addition, action groups will be established with health professionals to help slow the progress of the pandemic.

By donating, you will support this important work throughout Slovakia.

South Africa – SOS Children’s Villages

In South Africa, children – especially those who are having to grow up without their parents – are, more than ever, the most vulnerable group amid this coronavirus crisis.

Our location in Port Elizabeth, which has almost 1,000 employees, has been cooperating with the SOS Children’s Village in Schauderville for over 20 years. This facility, located in a suburb of Port Elizabeth, provides children with a loving home in stable conditions. The main focus of Continental’s support is on enabling children and young people to gain access to the economy through education.

During the coronavirus crisis, the sewing group within the SOS Children’s Village, which normally processes and sells different textiles, is producing face masks to government specifications and distributing these to the children and employees and to the surrounding community.

By donating, you can directly support the SOS Children’s Village in Schauderville and help it overcome this crisis.

      USA – Feeding America

While the severe COVID-19 situation in the US continues, food banks throughout the country continue to ensure that the most vulnerable people receive the food and hygiene items they need. Many of our more than 19,000 colleagues in the US have already been volunteering regularly in their local food banks for some time.  In addtion, thanks to a local donation from Continental, the Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte has already been able to buy and distribute a lot of “seven-day nutritionally balanced food boxes”.

By donating to "Feeding America", the non-profit organization that links US food banks, you will support the country-wide effort to fund, among other things, more such food packages for the needy.

Global – International Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund of the WHO

The coronavirus knows no limits, and given its worldwide spread, people in countries with poorly developed health systems are particularly at risk. The World Health Organization (WHO) manages and coordinates global efforts and supports countries in preventing, detecting and responding to the pandemic.

Together with the United Nations Foundation and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, the WHO has created a solidarity fund to combat COVID-19.

By making a donation, you can support this global relief fund, which will benefit the most vulnerable and needy countries in the fight against coronavirus.
