Flying High with Continental, for 150 Years
In 1900, Continental delivered the balloon material for sealing the gas cells of the first German airship, the Zeppelin LZ 1. Today, Continental is also using its knowledge of tire technology to drive forward other industrial sectors.
In cooperation with sporting goods manufacturer adidas, for example, the company has developed a shoe sole with an extremely strong grip. Thanks to the special rubber compound on his soles, Johannes Rydzek won an uphill ski-jump race in 2017, climbing the required 50 meters up the ski jump in Oberstdorf, Germany, in under 28 seconds. This was despite a constant gradient of 37 degrees. A world record.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary, we will show you the essence of our mission for greater mobility: Embark on a journey through the eventful history of the company since its founding in 1871 with fascinating motifs and experience the development of Continental into an international technology company.
Behind every individual image there is a special story, which you can discover here: From enthusiastic Continental staff members at work and surprising product launches at the end of the 19th century, to the spectacular world records and technologies for a sustainable and mobile future.
