Continental SportContact 6 Leads the Field in AutoBild Sportscars Test

      • High-tech sports tire wins through against nine competitors
      • Continental tire scores “very good” or “good” rating in all test disciplines
      • Cheap tires found to have “dangerously long braking distances on wet and dry roads”

Hanover, March 13, 2020. Under the heading of “Hot Wheels”, AutoBild Sportscars has published its latest annual summer tire test (issue 4/2020, p. 83) − and Continental’s SportContact 6 secured top step on the podium with an “exemplary” rating. “A top-class sports tire delivering precision steering, sporty-dynamic handling and short braking distances in dry conditions, stable lateral guidance in the wet and good resistance to aquaplaning,” wrote the magazine, summing up the test results. AutoBild Sportscars tested 245/35 R 19 tires on the front axle and 265/35 R 19 tires on the rear, with an AMG C 63 as the test vehicle. In all eight test disciplines on wet and dry roads, the SportContact 6 scored either “good” or “very good” marks, and also earned a “good” rating for rolling resistance.

The test results for one cheap tire from an Asian manufacturer made less impressive reading: “Low-budget tread pattern with dangerously long braking distances on wet and dry roads; discordant handling behavior on dry and wet roads; slow and spongy steering response and high rolling resistance,” concluded the test drivers. Their views on what they called a “rotten tire” were clear after just the handling run on dry asphalt: “This one is neither fun nor safe to drive.”
