Continental Completes Conti Eco Generation 5 Portfolio with New Trailer Tire

Hanover, Germany, September 22, 2026. Continental is introducing the new Conti Eco HT 5 trailer tire, completing its fifth-generation Conti Eco portfolio for freight transport. Together with the Conti Eco HS 5 steer tire and Conti Eco HD 5 drive tire, it provides fleets with a coordinated solution that combines lower operating costs, high mileage and reduced rolling resistance that can help improve fuel efficiency. Developed for regional and long-distance transport operations, the Conti Eco HT 5 extends the benefits of the Conti Eco Generation 5 family to the trailer axle. While trailer tires are not driven, they account for a significant share of the rolling resistance of a truck and trailer combination. Lower rolling resistance at the trailer axle can help reduce fuel consumption and consequently, vehicle-related CO₂ emissions during operation. “Every tire contributes to the efficiency and operating costs of a truck and trailer combination. While attention often focuses on the steer and drive axles, trailer tires also play an important role in rolling resistance and fuel consumption,” says Hinnerk Kaiser, responsible for the development of truck and bus tires in the EMEA region at Continental. “With the Conti Eco HT 5, we are extending the benefits of our fifth-generation Conti Eco portfolio to the trailer axle and helping fleets improve the efficiency of their transport operations.”

A trailer typically runs on multiple tires that are continuously in contact with the road. As a result, trailer tires have a direct impact on stability, fuel efficiency and overall operating performance. Depending on vehicle configuration, trailer tires can account for up to 50 percent of the total rolling resistance of a truck and trailer combination*. The new Conti Eco HT 5 has been engineered to deliver a good balance of low rolling resistance and high mileage, while promoting even wear and providing reliable grip across a wide range of operating conditions. The tire incorporates rolling-resistance-optimized materials, a newly designed sidewall and advanced filler compounds to improve fuel efficiency. 

High mileage and long service life

An innovative tread compound and refined curing process contribute to high mileage and long service life, while a redesigned five-rib tread pattern promotes even wear, stable handling and consistent performance in varying weather and road conditions on both regional and long-haul routes. Compared with the Conti Hybrid HT3+, the new Conti Eco HT 5 delivers up to a 12 percent reduction in rolling resistance under specified test conditions**. These improvements can help fleets reduce fuel consumption, lower CO₂ emissions and decrease tire-related operating costs. “For the Conti Eco HT 5, our focus was on improving efficiency while maintaining durability,” explains Kaiser. “The combination of low rolling resistance, long service life and balanced wear characteristics can help fleets reduce tire-related operating costs while maintaining reliable performance in demanding transport operations.”

The Conti Eco HT 5 will be available starting September 2026 in the following sizes: 385/65 R 22.5 and 385/55 R 22.5.
