Meet the Team Behind the Rayong Pride Project

Innovation happens when passionate people come together around a shared vision. During the development of the Rayong Pride Project, colleagues from different functions worked closely together to identify and celebrate their hidden heroes, particularly those at the manufacturing site. We spoke with one of the team members about the project, the challenges they encountered along the way and what makes this achievement so meaningful.

What project were you working on?

I am the project manager of Rayong’s Pride and Inclusive Appreciation and Recognition counter.

How would you descripe your project in simple terms?

Rayong aims to uncover our hidden heroes, especially our shop floor colleagues. At our manufacturing site, which is home to around 1,000 employees, many valuable contributions can sometimes go unnoticed. Our mission is to recognize these individuals, show appreciation for their efforts along the way and celebrate their achievements when they reach important milestones. That is what we are striving to accomplish in Rayong.

What challenges does your project address?

One of the challenges we identified is that, amid our day-to-day operations, a great deal of effort and excellent work is being done, especially on the shop floor, yet it can sometimes go unnoticed compared to the more visible contributions of office-based colleagues.

We want to ensure that appreciation and recognition are balanced across the organization. This project was created to make sure that, regardless of your role, position, or background, you receive the same level of appreciation and recognition from your colleagues. Whether it comes from a manager to their team or through peer-to-peer recognition, appreciation should be possible at every level.

This is the challenge we are currently addressing, and the value it creates goes beyond recognition alone. I believe it helps foster a stronger sense of belonging and reinforces the feeling of being part of one united team. Recognition not only makes people feel appreciated and inspired, but it also encourages them to inspire others. That is what we are trying to achieve - not just appreciation and recognition, but also the lasting inspiration that motivates colleagues across the organization.

The value we have already created at our location is a stronger sense of belonging and a feeling of being one united Rayong team. People are being recognized for their commitment to safety, their quality mindset and the way they live Continental’s core values every day.

What makes this project special or innovative in your view?

One of the key objectives of this project is to create a comprehensive landscape of appreciation and recognition tools that are accessible to everyone. For our shop floor colleagues, we have introduced initiatives such as the Safety Award and the Quality Award, ensuring that recognition and appreciation are directed specifically to those working on the shop floor.

For our office-based colleagues, we offer appreciation cards as well as ContiPoints, which are connected to many of these recognition programs. In many ways, this journey has been a process of continuous improvement. We started with more traditional, paper-based approaches and over time, our recognition tools have become increasingly digitalized.

Today, colleagues can recognize one another on digital platforms, making appreciation easier to share and more visible across the organization. At the same time, we believe that personal, face-to-face recognition remains just as important. That is why we continue to value and encourage direct recognition between colleagues.

In addition, we provide a larger stage for recognition through initiatives such as our Core Values Award, where our hidden heroes can be seen, celebrated and acknowledged for their contributions. By making their achievements visible, we hope to inspire and motivate not only the individuals being recognized, but also their fellow colleagues.

What was the biggest challenge and how did you overcome it as a team?

The biggest challenge for the team was collaboration itself. This project relied on the support and contribution of people from many different teams and departments, all working together to make it a reality. Bringing together colleagues from diverse backgrounds and functions was not always easy and aligning everyone along the way required a great deal of cooperation and commitment.

However, we were united by one common goal: to build a culture of appreciation and recognition in Rayong.

And I guess we did.

What are you most proud of as a team?

What I am most proud of as a team is our continuous improvement mindset and our determination to keep pushing forward. The team is constantly striving to do better every day.

We are not satisfied with simply maintaining the tools and programs we already have. Instead, we continuously look for ways to improve them, make them more effective and create even greater value for our colleagues.

We are all united by one common goal and everyone on the team is doing their very best to achieve it. That shared commitment drives us to keep improving, keep innovating and keep striving for better results in everything we do.

Why is this project a good example of how we work at Continental?

I believe that everyone at our location is doing their best every day. Some days they achieve their goals and on other days things may not go as planned. Too often, recognition is focused only on major achievements, while the effort that went into reaching those goals can sometimes be overlooked when the desired outcome is not achieved.

We see this as an important gap, and it is something we are trying to address. We believe that effort itself deserves appreciation, not just the result. The dedication, commitment and hard work people put in every day should be recognized, regardless of the outcome.

That is why we want to create a culture where both effort and achievement are valued. These two forms of recognition can go hand in hand, helping colleagues feel appreciated not only for what they accomplish, but also for the commitment they show along the way.

Setting New Standards Together

The Rayong Pride Project shows how appreciation, recognition and teamwork can create a stronger sense of belonging across an organization. By shining a spotlight on the often-unseen contributions of shop floor colleagues, the team has built a culture where both effort and achievement are valued. Through continuous improvement, innovative recognition tools and a shared commitment to celebrating people, the initiative is inspiring colleagues, strengthening engagement and bringing Continental’s core values to life every day.
