Logistics company Klaus Baum leverages ContiConnect while operating across Benelux region

Hanover, Germany, June 11, 2025. With its ContiConnect digital tire management solution, Continental offers freight forwarders an effective tool for success in the price-driven transport and logistics segment. “The use of digital technologies to save costs can be the key to success,” says Managing Director Andy Baum of Spedition Klaus Baum in Eupen, Belgium. Together with his father, he runs the family business and offers his customers services ranging from freight transport to warehousing. The transport company's fleet primarily carries steel products for the automotive industry from the Port of Antwerp, the second largest in Europe, to Germany. Punctual delivery is essential. ContiConnect digital tire management ensures daily reliability of the company´s 50-truck-fleet. “That means no more flat tires or vehicle breakdowns and greater safety for our 65 drivers,” says Andy Baum, listing the three advantages of the ContiConnect Pro Live module that he values the most.

Whether steel products, chemical products, textiles, or food—Spedition Klaus Baum transports goods to customers in Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and within Belgium. Each week, the trucks transport more than 4,650 tons of freight, covering an average distance of 2,650 kilometers. The company has its headquarters, a large warehouse, and a workshop in Eupen, Belgium, as well as a branch office in Luxembourg. The warehouse is centrally located in the border triangle of Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, with motorway connections to the major European ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam, as well as the inland port of Liège.

The vehicles of Spedition Klaus Baum are on the road from Monday to Friday. This means that the tires can only be serviced thoroughly at the weekend. Andy Baum wanted to reduce the stress and uncertainty associated with this by using the ContiConnect digital tire management system. “My goal was to increase the reliability of my fleet by keeping the tire pressure under control at all times and thus effectively preventing flat tires.” The ContiConnect Pro Live module sends tire pressure, temperature, and mileage data to his web portal in real time, 24/7, regardless of where the vehicles are located. This allows Andy Baum to monitor all trucks and trailers on his PC, tablet, or smartphone—even uncoupled trailers. If a problem arises, Baum is notified via a push notification. He can send out his own repair vehicle or make an appointment with a workshop. “For me, this is a real innovation for the transport efficiency and fleet safety of our family business,” says Andy Baum.

ContiConnect currently records tire pressure, tire temperature, and mileage. The next generation of sensors will supplement digital tire management with data on tread depth, enabling better tire service planning. “With ContiConnect, our customers always have an overview of the condition of their tires and any upcoming maintenance requirements,” says Clarisa Doval, Head of Digital Solutions at Continental. "With our tread depth monitoring solution, we are the first on the market and are setting new standards. We are offering our fleet customers innovative technology that takes the efficiency and predictability of tire services to a new level.” ContiConnect also provides a building block for sustainable mobility. The system monitors the service life of tires and maximizes their safe use. “Replacing tires too early leads to unnecessary wear and higher costs," explains Doval. “Replacing tires too late reduces safety, increases fuel consumption, and raises CO₂ emissions. Our solution – a combination of tread depth measurement by the sensor and our predictive models – enables fleets to further increase their efficiency and thus their sustainability.”
