At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Continental AG appointed Christian Kötz (55) as new chief executive officer and chairman of the Executive Board effective January 1, 2026. Nikolai Setzer (54) will step down from the Executive Board by mutual agreement on December 31, 2025, after more than 16 years as a board member and five years as CEO. This step comes as planned on the back of the significant progress made with Continental’s realignment and transformation into a pure-play tire company.

Continental is planning additional global measures within its ContiTech group sector to align its structure with a changing market environment and achieve a competitive cost level. Previous measures are no longer sufficient. This is because ContiTech’s key markets and regions continue to underperform and its cost structure remains too high compared with competition. To improve its competitiveness sustainably, ContiTech aims to generate annual savings of €150 million, primarily within administrative structures, from 2028.

Continental reached key milestones in its realignment during the past quarter. As planned, the company swiftly completed the spin-off of Aumovio and signed the agreement to sell its Original Equipment Solutions (OESL) business area. The final steps of the realignment include the sale of ContiTech next year and a sharpened focus on Continental’s tire business.
