Continental trade fair highlight: Continental offers premium lighting for farm and field with NightViu

      Agritechnica 2023

      • NightViu Working Lights receive the DLG seal of approval for use in agricultural vehicles
      • Flexible premium working lights increase safety and efficiency in the agricultural sector
      • Exceptionally high lighting efficiency: more lumens, but with the same power consumption as conventional lights
      • Continental will present smart and sustainable solutions for agriculture at Agritechnica

Hanover/Schwalbach, Germany, September 26, 2023. Under the motto “Our Smart Farming. For Your Harvest of Tomorrow,” the technology company Continental will present a wide range of products and digital solutions for agriculture at this year’s Agritechnica. The new NightViu lighting series is one of Continental’s Agritechnica highlights. Its automotive-grade, uniform illumination, designed specifically for agricultural use, provides better visibility for increased safety and efficiency in the fields. Just recently, the NightViu lights were subjected to a utility value test to ascertain if they met the certification requirements of the German Agricultural Society (DLG). And they passed with flying colors! The NightViu working lights easily met – and in many cases even significantly exceeded – the DLG standard in all test criteria and were awarded the official “DLG-Approved” seal. NightViu scored particularly well in the categories of light efficiency and shock and vibration resistance, and the DLG experts also gave NightViu the thumbs up for protection against dust and moisture.

More safety, maximum flexibility, minimal complexity

"With our working lights, we can do a lot for the safety of man and machine in the field and yard in situations with poor lighting conditions," says Georg Kliewer, Head of Special Vehicles in the Automotive Aftermarket business segment at Continental. "We are very pleased that this has now also been acknowledged by the independent experts at DLG."

During the harvest season, people worldwide keep working long after the sun has vanished below the horizon, making it all the more important to have optimal lighting at sundown and in darkness. The often-difficult environmental conditions in agricultural work also place high demands on the efficiency, quality and robustness of mechanical and electrical components.

      More illumination per watt

The NightViu series working lights feature an efficient reflector lens design with six powerful LEDs and four cover lenses. At around 100 lumens per watt, these LED lights have a greater light efficiency than many of the LEDs for agricultural equipment available today. The DLG test also confirmed this. However, this doesn’t simply mean that the working lights are more efficient. It also ensures that the sensitive vehicle electronics are protected and short circuits caused by excessive power consumption just can’t happen. The luminous flux options range from 1500 and 2500 to 3500 and 4500 lumens. The generated light beams cover a great variety of lighting scenarios for the work area around the vehicle, with illumination ranging from close-range to far-field, very centered spot lighting to floodlighting and from wide to ultra-wide. “In ultra-wide mode, we’re getting one lux of light at 25 meters in a 90-meter-wide area – and that’s unique in the industry today,” explains Chris Meissner, Head of Product Management Special Vehicles in Continental’s Automotive Aftermarket business segment. Overall, this increases the brightness in the corners and sides and at the end of the illuminated area away from the spotlights.

Continental also relies on a unique, particularly flexible housing concept that allows the four different luminous flux options and light patterns to be freely combined without needing more than one housing design. The aluminum housings are designed for off-highway use, so they are protected against water and dust to at least the IP6K8 standard. The lights also withstand temperatures between -40 and +90 degrees Celsius and pass vibration tests of up to 12 g rms. After thoroughly testing NightViu’s performance, the DLG assessed the working lights in the following statement: “NightViu working lights are recommended for high impact applications such as agriculture.” The lights’ flexible installation system for standard or heavy-duty mounting also enables retrofitting in many different positions on vehicles.

In Continental’s Booth A19 in Hall 20, the focus will be on forward-looking technologies, such as AI-based systems, autonomous mobile robot solutions, sensors and tire technologies that ensure greater sustainability, safety and efficiency on the farm, in the greenhouse and on the field. Thus, the smart farm of the future is already becoming a reality for farmers today. Agritechnica, the world’s leading trade fair for agricultural technology, will take place from November 12 to 18 in Hanover, Germany.
