On the Road with Retreaded Tires: CTJ Janssen Relies on ContiRe Tires from Continental

  • Transportation company CTJ Janssen boosts cost-effectiveness with ContiRe and the ContiLifeCycle concept
  • Continental’s hot retreads impress with high mileage and safety

Hanover, Germany, April 28, 2026. Retreaded truck tires are a central component of Continental’s comprehensive tire management system. They also play a key role in the operational strategy of the freight forwarding company CTJ Janssen GmbH in Grevenbroich, Germany. The family-owned business relies on ContiRe hot-retreaded tires and the ContiLifeCycle tire return program. “ContiRe delivers high efficiency and strong performance for us – with high mileage and significant cost savings compared to new tires,” reports Olaf Meyers, Managing Director of CTJ Janssen. “If we can also reduce CO₂ emissions in the process, why wouldn’t we do it?”

Family-owned company with a holistic sustainability strategy

CTJ Janssen was founded in 1985 and has been run by the second generation since 2008. Today, the focus is on national and international transport solutions for all types of general cargo, as well as hazardous materials and chemical products. The offering is complemented by warehouse logistics and value-added services. With over 500 of its own tractor-trailers, CTJ Janssen is one of the larger providers in the region and is increasingly relying on a holistic sustainability strategy. In addition to tire selection, this includes new fuels. This year, CTJ Janssen converted its entire fleet to the synthetic diesel fuel HVO 100, which is based on residual and waste materials. According to the company, this saves more than 30,000 tons of CO₂ annually compared to fossil diesel. Combined with tire retreading, this results in potential savings of over 90 percent compared to conventional diesel operation, based on company calculations. “For us, the tires are an important additional factor when it comes to decarbonizing our fleet,” says Meyers.

Efficient tire management for greater mileage and lower operating costs

ContiLifeCycle is a holistic system focused on tire reuse and extending service life. It helps fleet operators optimize the total cost of ownership for their fleets. The concept is based on circular thinking and encompasses new tires, casing management, and retreading. Retreaded tires replace new tires by reusing components and materials. To do this, the used tires are first carefully inspected and stripped of their worn treads. They are then fitted with new treads and patterns. In this process, up to approximately 70 percent of the materials in a used tire can be reused. Continental offers the cold-retreaded ContiTread tires and the hot-retreaded ContiRe tires in its product range. They provide a cost-effective alternative to new tires without compromising on safety, reliability, or performance.
