      RoboCar Challenge

      Prove your programming skills to your team by using image processing to guide a robot out of a maze. Your ideas can contribute to bringing autonomous driving to the roads.

      Team: max. 16 people (four teams of four)

      Continental will give you €100 toward your travel expenses and will cover food, drink and accommodation. After the event, just send us your travel receipts and we’ll reimburse you. All you need to do is make your own travel arrangements.

      The Challenge in Detail

      The task

      Be part of an exciting challenge and contribute your knowledge to the team. Overcome all the obstacles in our maze challenge and ensure that a robot can drive autonomously through an unfamiliar maze.

      First, the maze needs to be solved on the computer using the OpenCV image processing framework. The target coordinates are then sent to the robot, which, with the help of sensors, should be able to keep to the boundaries of the maze route. The start and finish lines will be visually identified and should also be automatically detected and processed by the algorithm.

      In the second part, the scenario will be observed using a camera installed on the robot and roadblocks shall be detected. In case of successful detection the robot shall take an alternative route.

      Skills needed

      Do you have a passion for technology and the current hot topic of autonomous driving? Are you an open-minded team player with excellent social skills? If you also know Linux, C/C++/Java and/or Python – and you’re familiar with the OpenCV image processing software – then this is the challenge for you.

      The equipment

      Good results can be achieved only in an excellent working environment. We’ll help you with all the technical resources you need. All you need to bring is your own laptop with OpenCV software installed.

      And the winner is…

      The winner is the team whose robot is the fastest to complete the maze course. Bonus points can be earned for detecting obstacles along the route.

      Each participant of the winning team will receive an Amazon coupon worth € 200.
