In October 2016 I was already a Continental employee, in Sibiu (Romania), for more than 8 years acting as an HW engineer in the VED department, IC development team. I always appreciated Continental as an employer for the good working conditions, the possibility to develop professionally and the general feeling that the company is really investing in its employees. I did not know what to expect more, or better say if I could be more impressed in a good way after all this years.
This all changed when my wife and me, who is also a Continental employee, had the chance to go on an International Assignment for a little more than one year in Hanover, Germany. It was a great opportunity for us to have a cultural and life experience in another country, so we immediately decided to take it. We had the company support for all the processes that were related to our relocation and the most complicated part for us was just to fit all our or luggage in the car.
The office location was different for us and in my case the location Stoecken in Hanover became my working environment for more than one year. What could have been a stressing and complicated period at the beginning turned out to be a really great time in which we accommodated easily. My colleagues in Stoecken played a great role in this by taking me in as one of their own and were friendly from day one.
Finding an apartment for one year was simple for us, and we were lucky to like one of the first apartments that we saw. All the legal process were taken care of by Continental, so all that was left for us to do was to enjoy our time in Hanover. And what a time it was!
This period will always have a special place in my memories and I will always be grateful to all the nice people we met during this life changing experience. I was born in Sibiu, I studied and worked all my life in Sibiu, so for me personally it was great to experience something else. It turned me into a more open person, willing to try new things and take on new challenges. Travelling is fun and you can also learn a lot, but living for a longer period in another country is totally different. I encourage everybody to take such a change and just go with the flow.
