      Ad hoc: Quarter Results

On the basis of final figures, Continental AG, Hanover, realized an adjusted EBIT* (EBIT before amortization of intangibles from PPA, consolidation and special effects) of €413.4 million in the third quarter of 2009 (PY: €319.1 million). With third-quarter sales of €5,337 million (PY: €5,892 million), the adjusted EBIT margin is 7.8% (PY: 5.5%). The most significant special effect in the third quarter is a non-cash effective goodwill impairment in the three Automotive divisions in the amount of €875.8 million. It is essentially due to this impairment that a negative EBIT of €-911.8 million was reported for Q3 (PY: €162.7 million).

In the first nine months of 2009 the corporation realized total sales of €14,400.2 million (PY: €19,146.0 million) and an adjusted EBIT of €662.1 million (PY: €1,502.8 million). The EBIT reported for the first nine months amounts to €–1,038.0 million (PY: €1,075.1 million).

The Continental Corporation’s financial report for the first nine months of the current fiscal year will be published today on October 29.
