Continental’s Environmental Strategy
Continental’s environmental strategy is geared towards making business sustainable across all levels of the value chain. Our strategy, which defines the objectives, key figures and measures, forms the framework for our environmental management activities. We are guided in this by the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs).
We are fully committed to the Paris climate agreement – 100 % climate neutrality by 2050. The following steps are planned:
- The use of electricity from renewable sources in all production sites by the end of 2020
- CO2-neutral production by the end of 2040
- A CO2-neutral value chain by the end of 2050
By pursuing extensive sustainability goals, we are not only acting responsibly toward the environment and society – we are also acting in the interests of creating value for our company. We see challenges such as climate change, globalization and urbanization as opportunities too. These opportunities require our innovative prowess in order to develop innovative technologies and efficient products.
We also demand comprehensive environmental management on the part of our suppliers. Where necessary, we help them to develop efficient environmental management systems – e.g. through joint projects and training. Key topics include cutting CO2-emissions, energy and waste management, and waste avoidance.
We set ourselves ambitious goals in 2019, and we intend to achieve these through far-reaching measures.
