      Responsible Value Chain

      Responsible value chain

We strive for 100% responsible sourcing and business partnerships.

By 2050, the Continental value chain is to be designed on the basis of responsible sourcing and business partnerships. For Continental, responsibility along the value chain means that each partner creates ecological, economic and social value for society.

Today, around 10% of the world’s population lives in extreme poverty; millions of people are victims of modern slavery and child labor. It is estimated that every six seconds, an area of the primary rainforest the size of a soccer field is lost.

      The company’s influence

Large companies operate in a global network that affects a large number of people and regions. This creates income, prosperity and jobs. But global value chains are also generating enormous environmental and social burdens today. By establishing responsible value chains, global companies in particular can have a major positive impact on the societies in which they operate. In addition, companies ensure their business prospects through responsible action.

Individual value chains are already being designed more responsibly. With a view to the future, however, it is clear that it is not enough to tackle the existing challenges with individual initiatives. Instead, it is crucial that companies like Continental work toward a fundamental revision of their business practices.

In addition, responsible value chains are key to ensuring companies have long-term access to resources and markets worldwide.

What does this mean for Continental?

The main objective is to protect human rights and the environment at every link in the chain: from raw materials to production, to the customers, and to creating added value for society. This requires compliance with due diligence obligations. In the next step, this will include the conclusion of new partnerships in order to avert negative social or environmental impacts before they arise. This change cannot happen overnight, but rather will be implemented gradually. It is essential for our future viability in the coming decades.

For this reason, Continental, together with our business partners, is aiming for a 100% responsible value chain by 2050 at the latest.
